Mission San Xavier del Bac
This mission, considered the finest example of Spanish Colonial architecture, was built between 1783 and 1797. The mission was founded by the Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino and the present Moorish inspired building was built under the direction of the Franciscans using Native American workers from the region. Little is known of the architect of the church, referred to as “The White Dove of the Desert” which came under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Santa Fe in 1859.
